Posted by Steve » add a commentOne of the decisions we made early on in the process of making our 4th CD was that we really wanted to capture the energy of the band. Those moments that only happen when we’re all standing in a room together playing off one another. Although I appreciate the work that goes into a modern musical production, with the detail and clarity and level of perfection, I often get the impression that a quotient of life and its imperfections is missing.
We therefore decided that we would track as much live as possible, in order to capture that energy, and life, we want you to feel like your in the room with the band, rockin’ away.
Here then, is a recording of one of those sessions. Its from a new song called Jack and Jill, it was captured when the energy was flowing. We first captured a few takes of this song a few days before this was filmed, but I wasn’t happy with the arrangement. A few days later, our work on another song wasn’t yet coming together, so we decided to give Jack and Jill another go with a new arrangement. I could feel the energy building in the room, a sense of focus from the band, we were one, it was electric. We nailed the song, together, in one take….all four time signature changes, no click, no quantizing, no grid…just a great live performance.
